Welcome to Saint Michael's Writing Portfolio!

Since 2006, I have been going to school to earn a degree and one of the worse things about going to college was writing. Cause I lack any writing skills in both essay and reach paper format and so I had to take College English three times order to pass that class. So in those three tries I have produce some of the best writing I have ever produce. Granted it may not be A+ perfect but I corrected them enough that they are close to it.

So enjoy my writing and of course if you like to cite from them in your own papers, especially my research papers, go right ahead. Just make sure to site them properly in MLA or APA format and maybe drop me a friendly note about using one of my papers.

The Singer Solution to World Poverty - My Thoughts Thursday, March 12, 2009 12:16 AM

About two weeks ago I read an essay by the (im)famous Peter Singer titled The Singer Solution to World Poverty, now I will say this, once you read what he has to say about his view on world poverty. I would guess that 95% of those who read his article will be angry and would want his head on a pike. Now on that note, he does have some interesting points and ideas about what he has to say about those involved and not involved in helping in the world ...

The Whiteness Factor Thursday, February 19, 2009 2:08 PM

The relationship of being white and American is a complex one because one would have to determine how far back in human history we would have to go in order to figure out where classifying all started. We could go start at the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, could go back to the Civil War era, we could go as far back to the signing of the Declaration of Independence or even 1620 when the first pilgrims landed in the new world. Suffice to say, we do ...

Basic Personal Computer Security Monday, January 19, 2009 1:51 PM

If a person has something valuable, like money or jewelry, he or she would most likely put it in a safe or deposit it in the bank. Only a fool would stick it under a mattress and leave the doors unlocked. Yet this is the case with most computer users at home. They have valuable information, like bank accounts and social security numbers, stored on a personal computer without proper protection from theft or vandalism. A person can protect his home computer from online threats by using software that provides ...

War Memories Monday, January 19, 2009 1:49 PM

The Iraqi desert was hot in the spring and summer, cold in the fall and winter. I did not expect, however, how hot or cold it would get but with a little help of rain that was mixed in the coldness of November how my mortality would come into play as I experienced both sides of the extreme desert. These are the first of many memories as we crossed the border into an land unknown to me. As the days went by in this war, the memories of my experiences ...

Victorian Style Train Station Monday, January 19, 2009 1:47 PM

Image That This Essay is Based On A Victorian style painting of a train station can tell a lot about the world during a specific time period such as what the people in this painting are doing, where they are going, and what they are thinking. I first came across this painting while taking a course in graphic design as we were discussing the Victorian era that week. This painting can tell someone a lot about the past such as what is the clothing style of the social status of the ...

The Government Turns Its Back on Iraq Veterans Monday, January 19, 2009 1:46 PM

I am a military veteran of the Iraq War. I went into the war zone in November of 2003, eight months after the war started. After my tour in Iraq was over, I came back with bad memories and a bad back. It took time for me to try to forget about the bad memories and I still think about those events from time to time. With my bad back, it would take ten months of procedures and surgery to fix me up again. This included the day I first ...

Why College is for Me Monday, January 19, 2009 5:44 PM

When I was asked to write something about why I wanted to go to college, I had to think about it somewhat and the best explanation I could think of was to be able to expand my knowledge and then use the knowledge I would gain for everyday life and achieving my goals as well. Like so many others, I thought college was a place where I would find out what I would do in the world. For instance, I could become a doctor, or a teacher, or a dentist ...

What Are We Afraid Of Monday, January 19, 2009 1:43 PM

There are many important dates in our American history like the signing of our Declaration of Independence, the end of the American Civil War and even when Alaska and Hawaii became the last two states to enter our union. These historic events would almost become forgotten as a new date would enter our American history and forever change the world and bring everyone into a new war. The war on terrorism has brought many changes to the world, especially in America as the new generation of American’s began to replace ...

Smokers or Non-Smokers Who’s More at Risk? Monday, January 19, 2009 5:42 PM

Smoking is possibly one the world’s oldest leisure activities and stress relievers since historians have dated the use of tobacco as early as the Mayan Empire (250-900 A.D) and it’s partial discovery by Columbus when he first landed on the new world. (Borio) By early to mid 20th century, however, smoking cigarettes started showing its deceptive side to both smokers and non-smokers alike. Although it would take years of research, thousands of reports and the constant battles between the courts and the tobacco, people were slowly beginning to know about ...

Stress From Racism May Be Factor In High Black Infant Deaths - The Debate Hospital Racism Sunday, October 26, 2008 10:30 AM

I had this assignment in my racism, ethnicity, gender and class course I am taking to give an analysis on an article that follows one of the many ism’s and I chose this one because it brough up a major issue once I did a little more looking. So read my view on this after reading the two articles and discuss this question that I bring up. At first when I saw the title of this article I thought interesting, but once I started reading it and eventually read the comments ...

Sexism and its Affect on Female College Athletes Thursday, February 19, 2009 2:05 PM

Sports are a form of activity that brings competition and the ultimate goal of winning with a set of rules that are used to protect not only the participants but to protect the integrity of that sports activity. Even though the athletes are opponents on the playing field when it comes down to game time it is the sportsmanship before and after the game that is most important regardless of the differences between the teamsand their players. Billie Jean King, one of the greatest tennis players ...

A Soldier’s War On Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Monday, January 19, 2009 1:57 PM

Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is not biased in choosing victims, and once PTSD has begun its long reign over someone’s mind, that person slowly begins to break down mentally and physically as they cope with what he or she has been through. PTSD’s history goes as far back as the mythical Trojan Wars in Homer’s Iliad and is as current as the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan (Taylor). PTSD is a complex disorder because of how it taps into one’s primal responses to life-threatening events and the strong psychological reaction ...
